How long is the TESOL course at your school?
The course is 150 hours in total over 4-weeks. The time commitment in weeks 1, 2 & 3 is mainly Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.00pm. During weeks 1, 2 & 3, you will also have class observation and teaching practice commitments some evenings and perhaps on a weekend or two. We set the time for these classes by mutual agreement. In week 4, the focus is very much on providing support with completing assessment tasks in a timely manner. Workshops are scheduled where necessary in week 4 - in the morning, the afternoon or both.

How many TESOL students are there in each group?

Do I need to bring anything with me for the course?
If you have a laptop or an iPad, they will certainly come in handy, although you do not need to go and buy one or both just for the TESOL course. Make sure you bring a notebook, a pen - and a big smile!!

Teaching practice is really important to me. How many hours of teaching practice will I have with your course?
Our TESOL course includes a minimum of 20 hours of practical experience with 'real' students. The first 10 hours are all about getting a feel for what it is like working as an ESL teacher. We pair you with an experienced teacher and you observe and participate in his (or her) classes. Once you have finished the 10 hours of class observation, you then move on to complete a minimum of 10 hours of critical assessed teaching practice - with 'real' students involved in ongoing classes.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed from the first day of the course - punctuality, attitude and input are really important in the teaching profession. In weeks 2 & 3 you will complete the practical part of the course - 10 hours of classroom observation and 10 hours of critical assessed teaching practice. With your teaching practice classes, you need to produce quality lesson plans. In week 4, you need to submit 2 written assignments:
1. a 1500 word essay on the importance of motivation; and
2. a 1500 word outline of a 'new' English language course.

I would like further information about the 'job guarantee' that comes with your TESOL course.
As soon as you have submitted your assessment tasks associated with the course (due in week 4), AVSE staff will assist you:
1. to produce a quality CV; and
2. by making direct contact on your behalf with the 250+ schools in our network across Vietnam.
You can be assured that there are many more English teaching positions available in Vietnam than there are TESOL qualified people to fill the positions. Most TESOL graduates start work immediately after the course finishes. Our hit rate with employment over the past 5 years has been 100% because schools know we run a quality TESOL course and we know where there are teaching jobs available at a given time.

What about accommodation?
AVSE provides free western standard accommodation within a 3 minute walk of the training centre for the duration of the TESOL program (4 weeks). Each TEFL student is allocated their own, fully furnished bedroom with air conditioning and a private ensuite. The free accommodation we provide comes with full kitchen and laundry facilities, wifi and cable television.
